Welcome to the Conrad Prebys Inaugural Season 2021 at The Rady Shell @ Jacobs Park! We are so excited for you to experience the San Diego Symphony's new outdoor venue and enjoy live music with friends, family...and the rest of your fellow San Diegans and visitors! We have put together an exciting season for you. Our subscription structure is different this year, so you will have the opportunity to enjoy an even greater variety of concerts that we've programmed through the beginning of November! New subscribers are welcome and will enjoy all of the the beauty, unparalleled sound and breathtaking sight-lines this exceptional venue has to offer.

Note: there is no one subscription which allows you to see all of our 2021 offerings, so feel free to subscribe to as many packages as you like! (Seating may differ from package to package, however.) Also, you may exchange into any subscription concert (except the Opening Weekend package concerts), just let us know what you need in the comments section of your order. Finally, we encourage you to add one or more of our Special Concert offerings, which you will have priority access to before they are available for sale to the general public!

STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI — In Concert

“I am a Jedi, like my father before me...”

In the spectacular climactic sixth episode of the Star Wars saga, Darth Vader readies the second Death Star to unleash the final blow to the Rebel Alliance. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) joins his droid allies R2-D2 and C-3PO, along with Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), to free his comrade Han Solo (Harrison Ford), imprisoned by the vile crime lord, Jabba the Hutt. Reunited, the Rebels race to the moon of the planet Endor where they launch a desperate attack upon the entire Imperial Fleet.

But the ultimate battle is between father and son, as Luke faces Darth Vader one last time, for the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance.

One of the most successful indie-rock duos of the 1990's, Indigo Girls, light up the night at The Rady Shell with their passionate songwriting and unforgettable harmonies, all backed by the warm textures of the San Diego Symphony conducted by Sean O'Loughlin.

OFRENDA: A Día de los Muertos Celebration

October 31, 6pm

Ballet Folklórico de Los Ángeles and Mariachi Garibadi de Jaime Cuéllar team up in OFRENDA, celebrating one of Mexico’s most beloved holidays, Día de Los Muertos, in an unforgettable visual and musical experience. OFRENDA pays tribute to traditional music and dances from different regions including “La Bruja” from Veracruz, “Retablo Purépecha” from the state of Michoacán, as well as the amazing music from the Disney movie Coco, and homage to great Mexican artists, such as Juan Gabriel, Selena, Pedro Infante and José Alfredo Jiménez, whose music lives on.

A SWINGIN' AFFAIR: Music of John Coltrane And Lee Morgan

San Diego Symphony's Jazz curator and trumpet extraordinaire Gilbert Castellanos presents his first concert at The Rady Shell when he pays tribute to two giants of Jazz and Swing history, Coltrane and Morgan.

LUCK BE A LADY: Ted Sperling Celebrates the Songs of Frank Loesser

Joined by featured vocalist Aoife O’Donovan, the lively talents of these exceptional artists come together on stage to create a singular sound that’s composed, part improvised, and uniquely American—music so complex to pull off that the group likens it to a goat rodeo, airplane pilots’ nickname for a situation in which many different things need to go right to avoid disaster. Steve Hackman's BRAHMS V. RADIOHEAD

Following on the huge success of "Beethoven v. Coldplay," "Brahms v. Radiohead" is conductor Steve Hackman's epic symphonic synthesis of Radiohead's album OK Computer and Johannes Brahms' First Symphony, utilizing a full 70-piece orchestra and three pop vocalists.

Beethoven’s powerful Symphony No. 7 is the centerpiece of this concert which features an opening work by Carlos Simon inspired by the second movement of Beethoven’s symphony and by Beethoven’s own written thoughts on the inevitability of fate.
